About the Program

The service prioritises the safety and wellbeing of people experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) domestic and family violence using a collaborative, client-centred approach designed to help individuals work toward their safety and support goals.

Service delivery includes both direct support and sector capability-building, with an emphasis on coordinated responses that consider disability needs, risk indicators, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Position Overview

The Safety & Wellbeing Practitioner is a specialist role within the Domestic and Family Violence Service, with primary responsibilities focused on safety and wellbeing support for clients with disability, and secondary responsibilities providing domestic and family violence support as required to meet service demand.

This position involves working directly with people affected by domestic and family violence, developing and maintaining safety planning and risk-related documentation requirements, and delivering training and resources to support the disability sector’s recognition and response to domestic and family violence.

The role is based in Wondai, Kingaroy and Murgon and reports to the Team Leader – DFV Therapeutic Supports.

Your Key Responsibilities

The role includes dual responsibilities across the Safety & Wellbeing function (primary) and Domestic & Family Violence Support (secondary), alongside dual-role administration and team participation requirements.

Primary Role: Safety and Wellbeing Practitioner

  • Provide individual support to people impacted by domestic and family violence who have a disability.
  • Support disability-sector services to recognise domestic and family violence indicators and to respond appropriately through training, resources, and ongoing support.
  • Ensure service delivery aligns with relevant regulatory frameworks, practise standards, guidance materials, and CTC policies and procedures relating to domestic and family violence.
  • Use a range of culturally appropriate tools to engage with clients and support collaborative, safety-focused service responses with other organisations.
  • Provide information, advice, and assistance through advocacy and referral, including direct support where required.

Secondary Role: Domestic and Family Violence Support Worker

  • Provide additional domestic and family violence support to clients in line with team priorities and agreed needs identified by the Team Leader.
  • Support responses may include court support and individual and/or group counselling/support to women and children, depending on service demand and role requirements.
  • Work within the Domestic and Family Violence Team to identify and respond to areas of need as agreed with the Team Leader.

Candidate Profile

CTC is looking for a specialist practitioner with experience in domestic and family violence and a strong understanding of disability-informed, safety-focused practise. The role requires high levels of personal safety awareness, professional boundaries, and an ability to work within confidentiality and information-sharing requirements.

  • Qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a closely related field, supported by significant relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting people in high-risk domestic and family violence situations, as well as people with a disability.
  • Skills in assessing risk and developing safety and support plans, with sound judgement and clear professional boundaries.
  • An understanding of relevant domestic and family violence and child protection legislation, practice standards and information-sharing requirements.
  • The ability to provide culturally appropriate individual and group support, respect cultural protocols and work collaboratively with partners.
  • A commitment to confidentiality, child-safe practice and CTC's values of Empathy, Integrity and Collaboration.
