Position Overview

The Youth Worker at Malcolm’s Youth Hostel will play a crucial role in providing immediate supported accommodation for young people facing homelessness. The Hostel aims to assist individuals aged 16-25 in transitioning to stable housing while building essential life skills and community connections.

This role requires flexibility to work across a 24-hour roster and a commitment to supporting youth in achieving their individual case plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and engage with young people to develop strength-based risk and readiness assessments.
  • Welcome and induct new tenants, ensuring they understand the Hostel's operations and rules.
  • Support the development of individual case plans focused on strengths and aspirations.
  • Facilitate daily activities to enhance the skills and confidence of young people.
  • Maintain accurate case notes and documentation as per organisational guidelines.
  • Uphold safety and wellbeing within the Hostel, modelling appropriate behaviour and routines.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a background in Youth Work, Social Work, or Human Services, with relevant qualifications and experience in supporting individuals facing homelessness. We seek candidates who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and can work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work, or equivalent.
  • Two years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Salary & Benefits

The position offers a casual hourly rate of $50.61 in line with the SCHADS Award, with opportunities for salary packaging. Additional training and professional development opportunities will be available.
