Position Overview

The Family & Youth Mentor will play a crucial role in supporting young people and families involved in the foster care system. This position requires working closely with case workers and the care team to provide therapeutic support, educational assistance, and emotional guidance. Mentors will work both within community settings and foster homes to foster positive relationships and developmental opportunities for children.

Shifts will include afternoons, evenings, overnight, weekends, and public holidays as required, providing a flexible yet structured approach to care.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Child Protection or Human Services, along with a deep understanding of the complexities faced by children in the foster care system.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Qualifications in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or a related field.
  • First Aid, CPR and Bronze Medallion Certificates or ability to acquire
  • Experience in Child Protection or a relevant industry.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.

Candidates must be flexible with their availability and willing to adjust hours to meet client needs, including pre-planned out-of-hours work. A mobile phone suitable for work purposes is required.

Salary & Benefits

The role offers a competitive hourly rate of $50.61, plus the opportunity for salary packaging under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
