South Burnett CTC Inc (CTC) is a not-for-profit community organisation committed to providing support to disadvantaged individuals across various backgrounds and ages. Our services span Foster Care, Residential Care, Youth & Family Services, Domestic and Family Violence Services, Disability Services, and more, serving the South Burnett area with teams based in Kingaroy, Wondai, Nanango, and Murgon.
Our Partners in Foster Care (PIFC) program recruits, trains, and supports carers for children and young people under Child Protection Orders, ensuring they receive the care and support they need.
Position Overview
The Cultural Connections Officer will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their connections to culture and community. This position involves providing guidance, training, and resources to carers to ensure culturally safe and trauma-informed care practises, fostering a sense of belonging and identity for children in care.
Responsibilities include assessing the needs of children and carers, contributing to the development of trauma-informed care strategies, and maintaining up-to-date documentation. The Cultural Connections Officer will also assist in recruitment efforts and work collaboratively with various stakeholders to promote the best interests of the children in care.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a strong understanding of the importance of culture and identity in the well-being of children in care.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and/or culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
- Background in foster care, kinship care, child protection, or community services (desirable)
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Ideal candidates will have a keen ability to engage with children, carers, families, and community stakeholders, as well as a commitment to maintaining cultural safety and trauma-informed practises. Proficiency in documentation, report writing, and case management systems is essential.
Salary & Benefits
This position offers a competitive salary of $38.65 based on the Social and Community Services Worker Level 3 under the SCHADS Award, alongside salary packaging options. The role is based in Wondai with the flexibility to accommodate the needs of clients.
